Hilma af Klint: The Ten Largest, No. 3 (1907) — Museum-Scale Statement Print

Introduce an authoritative art-historical anchor to your space. Curated exclusively at a fixed 60 inch x 80 inch gallery scale, this masterwork integrates classical depth with modern architectural proportions.

Painted in 1907 as a foundational element of the revolutionary Paintings for the Temple cycle, The Ten Largest, No. 3 captures the ethereal imagery of "Youth." Its fluid biomorphic forms, early geometric structures, and soft pastel palette predated the recognized abstract movements of Western Europe, providing a sophisticated narrative and intellectual pedigree for curated environments.

The Medium: Ultra-Heavy Fine Art Matte

Printed on exhibition-grade, 310gsm 100% cotton rag archival paper. This smooth, velvet-texture stock entirely eliminates ambient reflections and glare under gallery lighting, allowing the delicate ink gradients, fluid botanical motifs, and rich paint textures of the original composition to remain clean and legible from any angle.

About the Artist:

Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) was a Swedish artist and mystic who played a pivotal role in the development of abstract art. Born into a family of modest means, af Klint's early artistic training was largely self-directed, with her talent recognized through a series of scholarships that enabled her to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. It was during this period that she became acquainted with Theosophy, a spiritual movement founded by Helena Blavatsky and Henry Steel Olcott, which would have a profound impact on her artistic practice.

Af Klint's abstract works, characterized by their diagrammatic and symbolic forms, predated those of Wassily Kandinsky, often cited as the pioneer of abstract art. Her involvement with "The Five," a circle of women who shared her Theosophical beliefs, further solidified her commitment to exploring the spiritual realm through art. Through séances and other mystical practices, af Klint sought to establish contact with the "High Masters," channeling their guidance into her artistic creations. This confluence of spirituality and artistic innovation positioned af Klint as a trailblazer in the development of abstract art, her contributions only recently gaining widespread recognition within the art historical canon.
